Welcome!

So… why are we here?

Goucher College has a problem. Sexual and gender-based violence also seen as intimate partner violence, rape, stalking, transphobic and homophobic slurs and discrimination and sexual harassment continue to happen on this campus and victims are consistently silenced by the rape culture we all live in. We are here to say: Time Is Up.

Why Restore the Night and not Take Back the Night?
In an effort to shed light on the many forms of rape culture and as part of Sarojini Schutt’s senior Peace Studies capstone project and Maggie Ratrie’s senior thesis, we collaborated to organize a week long campaign called Restore The Night that took place April 2018. Restore the Night is based on the intentions set by the nationwide organization, Take Back The Night (an international organization seeking to end gender-based violence); we have changed the name to Restore The Night to tie in our values of restorative justice. Restorative justice allows all voices, especially voices that are systematically marginalized to be heard and taken into further consideration leading into active policy change and overall campus climate improvement. Restorative justice implies that the whole community is involved and is accountable for combatting sexism, sexual and gender-based violence, and the damaging effects of rape culture.

Restore The Night Campaign
Restore The Night is a campaign that seeks to end gender-based violence including sexual violence, sexual assault, domestic violence, and dating violence. Goucher has been participating in Take Back The Night events for quite some time now, but it is time for Goucher College to take a collective stance, and, as a multi-faceted community, break the silence and restore the night for all members of our community to experience Goucher college to its fullest without threat of sexual or gender-based violence. We present to you: Restore The Night!
